Felicitas beteken \u201cGeluk”.\u00a0 En dit is juis wat honderde kinders al sedert 1973 by die skool in Brakpan vind.<\/p>

Geopen op 6 Augustus 1973 deur \u2018n komitee van ouers met gestremde kinders wat die behoefte aangevoel het om iewers \u2018n sentrum op te rig waar hul gestremde kinders een of ander opleiding kon ontvang.\u00a0<\/p>

Hulle het soortgelyke sentrums besoek om vas te stel wat hou die oprigting van so \u2018n sentrum alles in. Onder andere het hulle baie nuttige inligting en hulp ontvang by \u2018n Mnr. Vitus in die “Happiness” gebou te Braamfontein.<\/p>

Van die naam \u201cHappiness\u201d het hulle die Latynse ekwivalent \u201cFELICITAS\u201d geneem as \u2018n geskikte benaming vir hulle skool.\u00a0 Van die ouers was onder andere Dominee GA Botha (ook later die Voorsitter van die Felicitas bestuursliggaam), Mev. Sue van Wyk, HP Malan van Brenthurst, Mev. Ingrid Webber, hoof van Vita Nova Stimulasie Sentrum in Benoni.\u00a0 Die hoof van Muriel Brand Skool, Mr J van der Merwe, het die ouers ondersteun en die sentrum is geopen met 10 leerlinge en \u2018n toesighoudster.<\/p>

Die destydse ou staatsmyn geboue is as skool gebruik. Op 1 April 1976 het die Departement van Nasionale Opvoeding die sentrum oorgeneem as \u2018n Staatsondersteunde inrigting en gedeeltelike finansi\u00eble steun daaraan verleen.\u00a0<\/p>

Nadat Felicitas vanaf sy ontstaan tot in 1977 by die staatsmyne gevestig was, maak hulle sedert 1977 gebruik van die ruimer geboue van die Klooster in Queenlaan, Brakpan. Intussen is Mev. GM Joubert as hoof aangestel en die leerlingtal het uitgebrei tot 58 kinders.\u00a0<\/p>

April 1978 is Mev Emilda G de Villiers aangestel as hoof van Felicitas.\u00a0 Die kinder getalle het gegroei tot 168 kinders.\u00a0 Sy het die behoefte aan koshuis inwoning vir die kinders besef en \u2018n koshuis met 15 kinders, wat later na 45 uitgebrei het, is geopen.\u00a0<\/p>

In 1980 is \u2018n tweede koshuis geopen vir die serebraal gestremde kinders.\u00a0<\/p>

Die oprigting van nuwe geboue: Mev Emilda de Villiers het dit vir haarself as haar grootste ideaal gestel. Fondse is ingesamel.\u00a0 Voor die goedkeuring deur die Departement Nasionale Opvoeding het sy afskeid geneem van Felicitas in Maart 1982.\u00a0 Oktober 1982 was sy gekies as \u2018n lid van die skool se Beheerliggaam.<\/p>

20 Junie 1980 \u2013 die Departement van Nasionale Opvoeding het goedgekeur dat Felicitas in April 1981 met die optrek van planne vir die nuwe sentrum mag begin.\u00a0 Kontrakteurs was van George Wimpey SA (Pty)Ltd en die kontrak is in November 1983 onderteken.<\/p>

Die geboue waaruit die nuwe sentrum en die koshuis bestaan, is voor die einde van 1984 voltooi. Die nuwe sentrum is gebou langs die huidige Muriel Brand Skool. Hierdie gebouskompleks is amptelik geopen deur Mnr. J.A. De Jager (Hoofdirekteur) van die Departement van Onderwys en Kultuuradministrasie in die Volksraad in 1986, wat nou met trots die skool van “Geluk” is.<\/p>

In totaal het ons 536 kinders, en ‘n weeklikse koshuis vir 60 kinders, bekend as FELICITAS SKOOL.<\/p>
